iPhone 2g with T-mobile 9.99 Internet on Jailbroken iPhone

Personally I LOVE my iphone.  Although I am still rockin' the good ol' ORIGINAL 2g iPhone.  Some people tell me "WHY WOULD YOU NOT GET A 3G, 3GS, or even wait for the 4g to come out?".  My answer to that question is that I am on the T-MOBILE network.

If you are going to be on an unlocked iphone and don't want to worry about APPLE'S DRM against jailbreaking with every firmware upgrade, 2g is the way to go.

It has been ages since there were any worries about your iphone unlock being threatened on the iphone 2g.  You unlock once on the iphone 2g, you won't have to be concerned about losing your unlock again there-after.

3g, and the upcoming 4g will always be controlled by Apple when a new update is released and you have to start your jailbreak and unlock research ALL OVER AGAIN.

I stick to 2g, I won't lose my unlock and I still get to enjoy all of my apps on the T-mobile network.

FOR SOME REASON, if T-mobile finds out you're on an iPhone, they keep pushing the 29.99 internet plan LIKE CRAZY.  I was even recently told that if you try to use the iphone on the 9.99 basic internet plan, that it wouldn't work and even if it did, it would be PROBLEMS LIKE CRAZY.  Another employee even told me that if I had the 9.99 plan, and i tried to use the iphone with it, it would AUTOMATICALLY switch to the 29.99 plan without my consent (which seemed illegal to me?).

So I kept calling and kept being persistent and told them that I will change my phone to the old one I had and if it "switched" to 29.99 on its own when i switch to the iphone, that i wouldn't mind at that point but I want 9.99 RIGHT NOW for my non-iphone cell phone.

I got it active on my account FINALLY.

I used the following settings on the SETTINGS > General > Network > Cellular Data Network

I activated my 9.99 plan on Friday, it is now Sunday night and have had no problems with this service since.  I was wondering if it had switched over to the 29.99 plan like I was told before and apparantly, IT HAS NOT.  I knew I was hearing bullshit when I was told I had no choice because big brother was watching what phone I was using.

This is where I confirm I'm still on the 9.99 internet plan.

One thing I recommend you do is change the device that you're using on your t-mobile account via the web.  I decided to choose the T-MOBILE WING device to be registered under like so...

My internet is not BLAZING FAST, nor is it necessarily "convenient" when it comes to using it with fun apps on the go.

But it does

  1. Check my e-mail anywhere (This is my #1 reason to have internet on my phone)
  2. Check and update my Facebook using the Facebook App (Loading times are tolerable)
  3. Check and update my Twitter account using Tweetie (Loading times are also tolerable)
  4. Check out the games using Espn ScoreCenter (Loading times are ok)
  5. Use Google Maps to check out the traffic to and from work (Gps is slow but I just use it for maps)
To be honest, FOR MY PERSONAL LIFESTYLE, at the moment I don't need much more than that and i'm VERY happy paying only 10 dollars to be able to use all 5 of those services wherever I'm at.

Try it out for yourself and let me know what you think.
